Growing up as the son of a PGA golf professional, Tom Willock has been involved with the game of golf nearly his entire life. After moving to Wilmington, NC, when he was 11 years old, Tom began to play competitive golf. Tom says, “My father gave me a golf lesson almost every day when I was growing up. If we weren't able to make it to the golf course, he would test me on the rules of the game, always telling me that they were there to help, not hurt you.” In high school he was a member of the 1993 Hoggard High School State 4A championship golf team. Shortly after graduating from high school, Tom's father passed away. This traumatic loss caused him to lose the desire to golf any longer. After 7 years away from the game of golf, Tom met a woman who would later become his wife. On their first Christmas together she gave him a set of golf clubs. He then began to play again, finding that he still had the skills to play well. He shot a 78, his first round after a 7 year layoff. The following fall he applied for a cart attendant position here at Belvedere C. C. After two months in the cart barn, he was promoted to the Pro Shop. All of the time he had spent with his father learning the game of golf was finally proving worthwhile. Within his first year of employment here at Belvedere C.C., he had worked his way from the cart barn to being the Golf Professional. In April 2006, Tom and his wife were blessed with a son, Thomas Cash Willock. Now with the responsibility of running the golf course, Tom wants to make golf fun for Tom Cash, as well as any other golfer who decides to tee it up here at Belvedere Country Club.
